There's the version of the world and of ourselves that we each want to be true. Then there's the real world and our actions within it. Dissonance is the story of one man's journey from fantasy to acceptance of reality.

Written and directed by Tino Godina, Dissonance is the fifth short produced by Wretched Children Productions. According to Tino, the inspiration for the story came from mostly practical concerns. With limited time and manpower, Tino wanted a story that could be shot in a single day and with a single actor. Like any true artist, however, Tino also wanted to experiment. In spite of having more expensive equipment available, all scenes were shot using a Samsung Galaxy S6.

When it came to the story, Tino drew from the five stages of grief and dying: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The lone character, the Wildman, moves through these stages as he comes to terms with his own actions. While he finds momentary comfort in illusion, true peace only comes once he stops hiding from himself.

This month, as we talk about balance, we chose to feature this video where recognizing your darkest side is as essential as life and death.
